Dr. David Weinstein receives a prestigious international humanitarian award

Dr. David Weinstein received a prestigious international humanitarian award, the Order of the Smile, for his efforts helping children with glycogen storage disease from around the world. Notably, he was nominated by his patients who specifically noted charity work performed at the University of Florida. One patient collected more than 200 letters from more than 30 countries to support Dr. Weinstein’s nomination.

The Order of the Smile is awarded twice a year, in spring and fall, and in its 44 years of existence has recognized nearly 900 people from 45 countries. Prior international winners include Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.  American recipients of the award include Steven Spielberg, Oprah and Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

Dr. Weinstein will travel to Poland to accept the award and to participate in a knighting ceremony, officially becoming a Knight of the Order of Smile.
