Desmond Schatz, M.D., medical director of the Diabetes Institute at the UF College of Medicine, was recently elected to the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL). The academy members elected Schatz for defining subjects at risk for type 1 diabetes and the genetic, immune and metabolic alterations occurring before onset and development of therapies to prevent and delay disease onset.
