Noche de Gala raises $3 million

The Sebastian Ferrero Foundation raises funds for the UF Health Shands Children's Hospital, and its gala is one of the largest fundraising events in the region with more than 900 people attending each year.

’90s bowling fundraiser to benefit 2014 Dance Marathon

Celebrating the 20th year of Dance Marathon, a “‘90s Strikes Back” theme was chosen to coincide with the idea of reminiscing. People will be able to decorate bowling ball cutouts and pins, which will be donated to the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital.

Scott Rivkees, the chairman of pediatrics at UF Health,said that UF Health Shands sees 150,000 children a year and the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation is helping to make tremendous strides toward changing the way children are cared for in Gainesville.

Gene therapy study produces promising results for patients with hemophilia B

A fraction of patients with a common form of the bleeding disorder hemophilia develop an allergic reaction to the blood-clotting treatment they need to keep them alive. Using gene therapy, University of Florida researchers were able to reverse this reaction and provide long-lasting treatment for the disease.
